Hi,

does this question belong under 'Garage' (here) or in the neighboring forum under 'Gartenbau'?

We need to renovate a garage driveway, approx. 50m2. So far there is a drainage in front of the garage, no idea where it drains to... Is it absolutely necessary, or could we also drain "under the hedge" or towards the street by using a slope?

Furthermore, a downpipe that currently drains sideways onto the driveway is supposed to be "put underground" - can I just simply drain it somehow, or do I have to work with 'soakaways' that are installed in the ground?

We have received a rough quote (only one so far), unfortunately not broken down in detail, but including new gravel (20cm) and paving split (5cm) as well as reuse of most of the old stones (disposing of the old stones would have cost more than the new stones, which cost about 20 EUR/m2) in a new laying pattern and about 15% replacement [on the side], including 3-4 soakaways, this is at just over 8.5k EUR gross, or 6.7k "cash" :(

I wonder, due to my lack of expertise, if this is just expensive or if it really is?

It should be noted that usually only cars use the driveway, but due to the motorhome, use up to 3.5t should be possible...

You are generally not allowed to drain onto the street. Draining into the hedge is OK if the slope works.

The pipe from the garage roof is best connected to the same drainage as the house. Depending on local regulations, either to the stormwater sewer (or combined sewer) or to an infiltration system. If necessary, it is sent to a cistern beforehand.

I cannot judge prices well since I do the work myself. However, more than 120€/sqm net seems expensive to me.

The problem is that there are no plans for the house drainage, the *Ver*sorgung is recorded in the plans, but no idea to what extent they are accurate... Presumably, the drainage runs at the other end of the house and then around the half-basement (?) to the street, so a connection wouldn't be that simple.

However, the downpipe comes from the *Haus*dach and currently just runs onto the driveway, the garage infiltrates at the other end :)

Maybe one should find someone who does the work in exchange for a stay in the holiday home, then both would benefit (of course completely official *cough*!)...

You can also do paving work yourself quite well. Bringing the base to exactly the right height is a bit fiddly, but not difficult. Laying [KG-Rohre] is also not hard, the question is just which pipes you hit when you dig around like that ;)

I am rather less worried about piping, but almost everyone involved is not exactly the fittest physically, to put it mildly... Operating an excavator might still work, but with a shovel and float and so on, besides the expertise (yes, there are videos ;)) fitness is mainly lacking.

And the acquaintance is not getting younger either, one who does/did a lot of handiwork is currently in the process of recovering from his cancer...

Then the only option is to let it be done. Obtain several quotes, even if it takes longer. Our driveway is 70m, changing slope about 5 times to the right and left
