Repairing parquet: Is it wood?

Ok, that sounds doable. Is a handheld sander with a 180mm pad also okay, or is that rather bad? I actually have such a device here. How does it work with the test? Won't it be uneven if I start with one corner? Assuming it looks good.. Then just paint the rest or how do I avoid an unsightly transition?

Sanding marks across the grain are always difficult to sand out. It is better to sand along the grain. A belt sander reduces the risk of sanding dents into the floor.

Please excuse the long silence. I wanted to at least briefly report the outcome here: You were right about the assessment of the parquet flooring, and it was worth refinishing the floor. Especially due to time constraints (the moving date was relentlessly approaching and there was simply too much to do), I ultimately hired a company. The floor was sanded and treated with parquet lacquer. I am very satisfied with the result. However, taking decent photos of such a floor is very difficult. At least you can somewhat see the difference, I think. Happy holidays!
