If you are going to redo it anyway, be sure to use a silicone cord of the appropriate diameter. It is pressed into the gap and thus prevents three-flank adhesion. This keeps the silicone joint more elastic. Additionally, the silicone joint is then less likely to tear, and you also save a lot of silicone.

Do the spots where the silicone was cut away need to be treated somehow so that the new silicone will hold there, or should that not be a problem?

What a gruesome coinage


I have cleaned such spots with vinegar, roughened the old silicone, and then applied new silicone. But really only where I noticed small detachments from the background.

For that, I had silicone remover. Let it take effect a bit and then the residues could be scraped off.
