Dear members,
about 2 years ago I bought a nice house in Bavaria and do as much as possible myself, of course. So far, everything has worked out well, with contacts, with companies, or "do it yourself". Now only one problem has come up, which I don’t know yet and need advice/help from you. We have completely finished the interior construction, everything taken out and redone / plastered, all with good plaster, against mold and the like. Only in one room, or rather, on the other side also the other room, soot stains have formed from the former chimney, which is no longer in operation. The question is, how do I cover those stains? I have very good paint from our painter, which covers evenly even dark plaster, so not Alpina and the like, really proper "painter’s paint." The problem is, the yellow-red coloring keeps coming through. Despite advice not to do so, I bought "Anti Nicotine and Soot Paint" from Obi. You can forget about that. First of all, it is not white and does not cover as described the soot stains coming through. Our painter revealed a little trick to us. Namely, simply glue aluminum foil on it and then put panels or wallpaper on top. I can imagine that on the ceiling, because panels will go there. But on the wall, it should only be paint. On the ground floor we have either stretch ceilings or woodchip wallpaper and the walls painted white. Now the upper floor needs to be finished, and that’s where we have the problem. Does anyone know a trick or a solution?
Thank you very much for the answers.
