Registering a business for self-builders - sensible?

I have heard that it makes sense to register a business for self-construction.
Can this be confirmed? Maybe someone has done it before.

What is the objective? Buying at net prices? For that, you need a recognizable profit motive, that won't work. Or do you want to act as a general contractor and sell your own house to yourself? That might work, but only with a GmbH or higher, and you don't just found one like that. Or what's the whole point?

Have you also heard what kind of sense this is supposed to “make”? What entrepreneurial experience do you have? What would be the business purpose?
