Hello :)

My husband and I want to move into an old building in September. The house was built in 1950 and has been equipped by us with new windows/doors and a new heating system (gas, condensing) from Vieesmann. We are still insulating and renovating the roof.

Now the question. We have removed all the radiators to paint behind them, and now we are considering new radiators or cleaning and painting the old ones? In terms of costs, refurbishing doesn't really save much anymore because radiators from the hardware store are quite affordable nowadays. We are just unsure because someone once told us that the old radiators have better heat output in combination with a condensing boiler.

Maybe someone can help me here.

Best regards

Pictures say more than words. What kind of radiators should be refurbished? After 70 years, new ones are probably better.

Get rid of it. For example, go online to heizungsdiscount24 and get new radiators. Property. The bigger, the better – because then you can lower the flow temperature.

Not to mention the nicer appearance.

If you basically like the look and they still work, you can paint them yourself and they will be bright white again. I managed to restore two radiators very well with the radiator paint from Obi. Painted three times each and they looked like new again. In our case, they were only slightly yellowed and hang in the children's rooms, where I don't want to spend money on new ones for now. Ours were about 20-30 years old. So far, the paint has also withstood rough treatment by children :p. Ultimately, you just have to decide for yourself what you prefer. New radiators are expensive and usually there are additional costs because something has to be changed on the heating pipes/connections for a switch to new ones. New radiators are just more stylish, but that's a matter of taste.

Either I would restore the old classics or buy something truly nice - such as from tubes radiatori or tornado. New trivial DIY store goods are in the end simply just more expensive.
