Hello,

We have been considering the construction of a thatched roof house for some time. Since we live in Lower Saxony near the Elbe, you do see such roofs quite often, but our architect (at least one of the three we asked) advised against it because the climate is too humid and there would then be a risk of mold formation.

Who is familiar with this and how great is the actual risk?
Ironically, we want a thatched roof precisely for climate reasons.....

Best regards

In post #2 of the thread I already recommended that you should consult not an architect, but a roofer (preferably one who deals with this regularly) for such matters.

The thread has also dealt with this question.

I have not dealt with how the Energy Saving Ordinance has reshaped the world for thatched roofs, and what possible complications may arise from it.

One must not forget that every roofing material has its area of application, and I, for example, would not use thatch at a 30° pitch.

Hi,

Yes, you have and of course I have also contacted the specialists / roofers. As always, there are pros and cons.

Often, however, there are already experience reports in the forum and recommendations resulting from them.

Thatching appears here in the forum a little more often than Halley's Comet – but what I often see here are advertisements from Emil von Elling, who also have thatched roof houses in their program.
