Hello,

we live in an existing building and now want to carry out energy-efficient renovations. Unfortunately, we are confused due to the reports about Styrofoam for facade insulation and the flood of information about all kinds of insulation materials. We just want to insulate our exterior walls...

Therefore, I wanted to ask around what experiences you have had with facade insulation and different materials? From the decision for the material and installation to living in the insulated house...

I would be happy if someone shares their experiences here.

Thanks in advance

I would also not use EPS insulation, for ecological and technical/ building physics reasons.
For your project, however, the boundary conditions would have to be clear:

- What does the building look like?
- Which U-value etc. should possibly be achieved, for that the wall structure would have to be known
- Have other construction measures been taken or are they planned?
- Do you also want to carry out work yourself?

Then your questions could be addressed more precisely, but it should not only be the facade insulation considered -
there are more effective measures
You can also take a look under 'Energiesparhaus', where similar questions were discussed and I commented on them

Hello BAUFREUDIG,

Personally, I don't think anyone can give you a specific brand, since it always depends on your house. I think some things are more suitable and others less so. Maybe this article will help you a bit: Tante Gurgel + Energieportal 24 + Wanddämmung

I actually find it quite interesting, as you get a few general infos, tips, and tricks there!

I find mineral wool, etc., in other words all absorbent types of insulation, concerning because as soon as it is saturated with moisture, the insulating effect drops to almost zero...

Exactly that is also stated in the building material instructions, that in case of a construction stop or if, for example, bricks are stored overnight, they must be protected from frost and moisture, otherwise they will no longer be usable.

Yes, that’s true... but for my taste, with all types of ETICS executed with some kind of absorbent material like rock wool, mineral wool, etc., there is too much that can be done wrong and is done wrong...

I see it every day in the city on all the new buildings...
