Hello everyone,

We planned an exhaust system for our kitchen. After several discussions with various builders but also kitchen installers, they rather advised us to use a recirculation system.

The following reasons were given to us:

1.) According to the Energy Saving Ordinance, the drilling (wall) for the exhaust system has a negative effect on achieving the energy values.
2.) The grease vapors deposit on the outer wall and blacken it.
3.) The noise levels hardly differ anymore.
4.) The efficiency of recirculation systems is supposedly better than that of exhaust systems.

What do you think about this?

Hello home builder,

we were also told that an exhaust vent in the kitchen and the associated mandatory hole in the wall is against the energy saving ordinance. But if you use controlled residential ventilation, you can save yourself that anyway, as the exhaust ducts are usually installed in the kitchen and bathroom. And that should make the "smell" disappear very quickly.

The exhaust devices are indeed supposed to be very good, but every kitchen builder will tell you that :-)

Best regards Klaus

Thank you

Hello Klaus,

thank you for your message, whereby the costs of a controlled residential ventilation system will amount to a five-figure sum! Right? Have you had good experiences with it?

Hello home builders,

the costs for an oil or gas heating system with underfloor heating and controlled ventilation are probably not significantly lower than a heat pump heating system. I don’t know how much the ventilation system alone costs. But if you have a tight building envelope according to the energy saving ordinance, you could at least consider it, because how else are you going to ventilate? Opening the windows wide is probably not always possible and you need an air exchange.

But you can find enough information on that from Aunt Google :-)

We are also just building and have already informed ourselves quite a bit about it. Certainly, a conventional heating system (gas / oil) with radiators is cheaper to purchase in the end. Whether it pays off in maintenance is another question ...

Hopefully you make the right decision. We were told to definitely build underfloor heating with a gas boiler with the option to upgrade later to a heat pump, but I think the decision for a residential ventilation system has to be made from the start.

It is not mandatory according to the energy saving ordinance, even though it is often talked about.

Regards Klaus
