Raising the light wells as a precaution against flooding?

BTW: I already had the exact opposite problem here with raising the light wells (and their lateral sealing) as a heavy rain with coincidentally the "right" wind direction dumped the rainwater precisely into the light wells. Unfortunately, one of the basement windows behind them was also leaking, which of course you don't notice with normal rain. One solution is an acrylic glass pane mounted slanting above, which covers the light well and thus prevents it from filling up. Of course, not everyone likes that, but it helps.
