Hello home builder,
We will start building our house in June (new solid construction, developer Heinz von Heiden). After many weeks of brainstorming and planning, we have gotten through the consultation and architect meeting with Heinz von Heiden to the point that we have now submitted the building application so that we can get started. One point in the building description related to the property was imposed by the city... rainwater use. Generally a good thing, using rainwater for garden irrigation or as non-potable water for use in the house. The city requires us to install at least 30 liters per square meter of roof area for rainwater. Since the groundwater level on our property is at 1.2 m, I am concerned about a cistern. Not that the cistern might be washed out by the groundwater? So I would have to install a shallow cistern. But then frost protection cannot be guaranteed.

Who has experience with cost-effective rainwater systems, and can you recommend concrete or PE cisterns? Must a cistern be installed frost-proof? Does rainwater use pay off for the house as well, or only for the garden, or from when does a domestic waterworks system make sense?
Many thanks and best regards, @tom
