Hello everyone,

our new construction is now slowly approaching the painting work. I wanted to get information from you experts on how to go about it. We are building a single-family house (classic gable roof). On the ground floor there is gypsum plaster as well as the concrete ceiling, on the ground floor / SPB there is gypsum plaster and gypsum board. We want to paint all rooms white.

I have a few questions about this:

1) Is it absolutely necessary to apply a painter's fleece to the precast ceiling? The joints will of course be filled by the general contractor, but we are not sure if that is sufficient.
2) Gypsum plaster: Which paint would/should be used here? How must the gypsum plaster be pretreated?
3) Gypsum board: Same question as in point 2) - how can it be ensured that there are no color differences at the transition plaster <-> gypsum board?

I would be very grateful for a few tips / advice.

Regarding 1)
No, the acoustics should be somewhat better (softer) with fleece or wallpaper, as the sound is not reflected as harshly as on concrete. We only paint our concrete ceiling.
Depending on the agreed quality level of the putty work, it can happen that after painting, without additional sanding, you still see edges and grooves.
Best to buy a long-neck sander (a decent used one) and possibly do some touch-ups. That's how I do it.

Regarding 2)
It's best to ask in the painting department. We also have gypsum plaster, drywall (GKB), and concrete and use interior silicate paint. We haven't painted concrete with it yet. One coat is completely sufficient on plaster, but on drywall we have to do it twice. Of course, important: prime!!!
We had a special primer based on silicate (because of the paint).

Regarding 3)
Buy good paint, apply evenly with a brush/roller and possibly do another coat. And of course always prime and prepare well beforehand (putty, sanding).

For the wall joints, you need good paintable and preferably fast-curing acrylic and a steady hand.

By the way, it looks great for us so far! I'm glad we didn't use wallpaper.

You can't rule out hairline cracks without fleece, of course. But for us it's worth it (saved a lot of work).

We did it similarly to how One00 described.

For this, we first painted the walls that were supposed to be colored white again. You need to plan the appropriate time for this (priming, white, colored, and colored again), but the result is convincing.

Hi We had a fleece applied to it, it looks fantastic, no texture at all, just pure white. I would do it that way again and again. Regards

I would have also had it done, simple fleece looks great and construction cracks disappear easily behind it. But I wanted to save the money for having it done or the time for doing it myself and it also looks really great. Very fine texture from the roller and very simple. By the way, it worked quite well on concrete, two coats of good paint were enough. I wouldn't have thought that. If you discover dents while painting, they can be perfectly filled, sanded, primed, and repainted after the paint has dried, you won't see anything anymore.
