Hello everyone,

I would like to have some windows in our house replaced soon and am looking for suggestions and tips regarding windows.

The only thing that has been decided so far is that there will be aluminum windows.

Before I get quotes, I would like to first get information about what needs to be considered and what I should specifically pay attention to so that I am not offered any "junk."

-> K-value, U-value, resistance classes, frames, laminated safety glass yes or no, etc.

Are there standard values used in a single-family house?

I am grateful for any advice.

Hello,
Modern aluminum windows have thermally insulated/thermally broken frames; the U-value of the frames ranges between 1.5 – 1.9 W/m²K, the value for the glazing is between 1.1 - 1.3 W/m²K.
The data for burglary protection and wind resistance depend on the location of the house, burglary protection also depends on your own requirements. There are three resistance classes for this:
WK1: Basic protection against physical force, such as kicking, jumping against, or shoulder throw
WK2: Protection against break-in tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, and wedges.
WK3: Additional protection against tools such as crowbars (pry bars).
Laminated safety glass is always used when there is a risk of falling through the pane from a height of 1.20 m or more (but this can also be prevented by additional crossbars in the parapet area).

Common test criteria/certifications for aluminum windows:
Driving rain (EN 1027), air permeability (EN 1026), sound insulation (EN 20 140-3), burglary protection (Energy Regulation 1627).
An aluminum window should include information on the mentioned standards, then you are basically on the safe side.

mmh I think the focus here should especially be on the seals, whether thermal insulation glass is used, and how the insulation itself is in the window.

Hello, I think aluminum windows are a good choice. They are sturdy and durable. They also provide good protection against uninvited guests. The thermal insulation is of high quality and [hier] the energy costs are drastically reduced. I am very satisfied with it. Best regards Annegret

Thank you for this detailed list. I have another question about triple glazing. Is it really the case that triple-glazed windows no longer fog up in winter? Actually, it shouldn’t happen with double glazing either, but something is wrong with ours and they constantly fog up as soon as it’s below 0 degrees. Would an exchange for new windows solve this problem or would it only increase the thermal insulation value?

Actually, this should not happen and we have no problems with it either. My recommendation is simply to ask a window maker. They can surely provide help to solve the problem.
