Sorry for the late reply - now the family is somewhat healthy again.
The floor has a 0.4mm wear layer, so it is somewhat (!) "thicker" quality (not the wear layer, but the entire PVC. Underneath is a very old linoleum layer. Although the price was low, it was a special batch, so the quality is probably in the mid-range.
I don’t want to glue it down over the entire surface, precisely because I dread the work if it needs to be removed again sometime. The rooms are > 4m long, > 3m wide. Hmm, middle and the corners is also a solution, I will take a look at that.
Above all, thanks for the tip about laying it down and letting it rest - I will try that, despite the schedule becoming tight.
But then I’ll try my luck. And if the first room at least still looks usable on day 1, I will continue... and curse if it no longer looks good later.
