Hello,

we need advice on the following issue:

We are planning to purchase a turnkey townhouse. As an additional feature, we want underfloor heating on the ground floor (approx. 43sqm heating surface). Since the house has no basement, the pump will be installed in the living/dining area.
Has anyone had experience with this? How loud is such a pump and how often does it switch on?

Pros or cons of underfloor heating

Thanks and regards,
Marico

Hello,

You probably mean the distribution box. Why don't you have it installed in the HAR/utility room or at least in the hallway?

Best regards from the Rhineland

Hello,
Are you actually buying (developer project) or having it built (general contractor/project)?
How did you come up with this idea? Is there no utility room? ;-) Also, completely independent of the type of heating surfaces, the heating circuit(s) must always be operated by a pump for heat transport and distribution, provided heating water is chosen as the medium.
I could write a book on this alone ;-) There is no general "pro/con" because the number of parameters to consider is simply far too large. Here, too, the individual conditions, necessities, requirements, and wishes are decisive!
For example, if the heat generator is a heat pump, large-area heating surfaces (underfloor heating, radiators) are virtually indispensable.
There are numerous aspects speaking for or against underfloor heating, for example:

- Operating costs
- Investment
- Heating regime
- Variability
- Appearance
- Comfort requirements
- Cleaning options...etc.

Best regards

Thank you for the prompt reply.
The terraced house is being purchased from a developer. A total of 56 terraced houses are being built there, which are supplied with heating energy, among other things, from a central technology unit.
Inside the house, there is a service shaft in which the heating pipes are laid up to the attic and then into the individual rooms.
The pump and control unit for the underfloor heating are additionally installed next to the service shaft in the living/dining area. Of course, the heating water is also "tapped off" here.
We are now wondering whether the noises made by the underfloor heating pump might be perceived as very disturbing. The developer already points out in the supplementary catalog that noise development occurs.
Perhaps someone has experience with the above-mentioned situation and can provide clarification?

Hello,

So the terraced house is supplied with district heating (DH)?

Sorry, but I would stay away from this project; my subjective opinion. I don’t want the technology (even if with DH only the distribution has to be organized) literally on my living room table. Where do the connections enter the house? Is a storage tank for hot water needed? Even with small terraced houses, there are ways and possibilities to accommodate the technology in a separate room ... or will you also be washing/ironing in the living room in the future? How small/large are the dimensions of the terraced house?

Is the price including land that tempting?

With Rhenish regards

Ohh, jee, are you sure this is a good decision? It is not uncommon for such "cheap" offers to later turn out to be money pits! So district heating supply. Utility room saved? Who finds buyers for such nonsense? Completely independent of that, with such "constructions" the delivered energy is calculated, not the actually utilized ;-) Best regards
