Hello!
We originally wanted to lay laminate in the living room with dining area and open kitchen. Toscana Flair from OBI.

Now I am reading and reading and wondering about the pollutants in laminate.
Since we have two small children, this is especially important to me.
Here are my thoughts on this:
1. Laminate, questionable whether it contains pollutants aside from the texture.
Alternatives:
We don’t want tiles, PVC and linoleum are also out of the question.

2. Parquet,
Did I understand correctly regarding underfloor heating: heating up takes longer, but once the wood is warm, then basically no difference?
And then ideally fully glued down for underfloor heating (although some say floating wouldn’t make much difference...)

3. Engineered hardwood with click system would suit me, but what about pollutants there (since it’s not solid wood)?

4. Cork engineered hardwood would also be interesting for us in the children’s rooms, no underfloor heating there. But what about pollutants here?
And with underfloor heating, does it also take longer to warm up but then works well?

5. Solid wood planks/solid wood floorboards, actually our dream covering... unfortunately high build-up height. Due to underfloor heating, extreme gap formation possible.

Please share your thoughts on this with me, have I understood everything correctly so far?
And what do you think about my concerns regarding pollutants?
Best regards

In connection with underfloor heating, only directly glued parquet or cork are suitable. Both are, in my opinion, free of harmful substances. Adhesives and sealants must, of course, also have this property, but it is possible.

Whether laminate is that bad ... I don't know (I rather think not, if you are a bit careful when buying).

I have to disagree with you.

We have equipped the entire attic (except the bathroom) with floating parquet flooring (Salzburg mountain maple) and our underfloor heating works perfectly.

Dirk

The main thing is no PVC/vinyl flooring, because the plasticizer in vinyl chloride evaporates, is absorbed through the skin (barefoot, baby crawling, animal paws), and is absorbed by house dust that then flies around everywhere and is also inhaled...

The top layer in laminate consists of melamine resin, which is basically harmless in that state, so laminate is harmless as long as you don’t put it in a blender and eat 100 square meters for breakfast...

Just for your information, has nothing to do with the processing in laminate but to know what melamine can cause:
China, for example, diluted pet food with it to fake a higher protein content, which led to the death of pets due to kidney failure.
Baby food was also diluted with it to cover up unknown substances, thereby increasing the nitrogen content = higher alleged protein content... This caused 6 infant deaths due to kidney damage and nearly 300,000 sick babies...
It was also detected in dairy products and regular liquid milk.

In animal experiments, administration of high doses in the lethal range to mice and rats caused symptoms such as eye watering, respiratory distress, trembling, circulatory disorders, and paralysis of the forelimbs.

I thought there are no plasticizers in vinyl floors? At least not in those with the "blauer Engel" or something similar? And with laminate, the adhesives between the layers are the "bad" part again. Just like with parquet, the glue used to bond the parquet can be harmful. I think you just have to try to pay attention to recognized seals on the products and possibly also "good" manufacturers.

Vinyl floors do not receive the Blue Angel because vinyl chloride = plasticizer... However, there are design floors (vinyl floors are also called design floors) that have a Blue Angel, such as those from the company Meisterwerke called design floors DS...
