Good morning everyone,

Does anyone have experience with manhole covers made of plastic? I have two inspection shafts - one in the lawn, one in the driveway - that I have to access relatively often to clean the lid or to check my sump pump, and I am tired of constantly having to heave the heavy concrete covers. Above all, they are starting to crumble apart. I have been following online for some time that more and more suppliers of plastic covers are appearing. Seems to be a new trend, which makes sense. But are these things any good? Does anyone have experience with them?

With kindest regards
Ludwig

Hello everyone - in the meantime I received a tip from an acquaintance who works in landscaping to take a look at the company Stabiflex, which apparently supplies the covers for most plastic cisterns. I also checked out their homepage, everything looks pretty decent so far and recently they also have plastic shaft covers for concrete shafts in their product range. Does anyone have experience with Stabiflex products?

Hello everyone - I have also been looking for a lightweight plastic lid, but was initially put off when I saw what some manufacturers of plastic containers supply as "plastic lids." It's hair-raising what I saw; they bend just by looking at them sharply! Unbelievable!.... As a quality assurance man at an automotive supplier, I do wonder where the much-praised high quality "Made in Germany" has gone! The manufacturers seem to be completely insensitive about that. In the meantime, I bought one of these STABIFLEX parts online because they obviously deal professionally with the topic and at least supply tested products according to ISO 15398 (although I would prefer a DIN or EN standard...). In general, I have to say that the parts could be better in some areas - it is just a rough construction product and does not cost the earth either. However, the quality and workmanship are quite okay for that, in my opinion, meeting the requirements - they are definitely higher quality and more stable than the "plastic things" from the plastic container manufacturers and much better than a heavy concrete part. The assembly was easy but not really a big challenge anyway. The lid is reasonably stable for its light weight, easy to handle (definitely good for my back) and you do get the impression that it can reliably fulfill its task for several years - can definitely be recommended with a clear conscience and even my friendly maintenance technician was quite impressed during the annual maintenance two weeks ago.
