Hello everyone,

we are still unsure when the plastering of our exterior wall should take place to avoid potential damage such as cracks. It could be either before or after the winter 2018/2019. Since we are moving in later, this is not a deciding factor. Planziegel Eder XP9 (42.5 cm) will be used without additional insulation.

What would you do?
Thank you very much!

Hello,
well, I would plaster before winter. If the stones get wet and there is frost in winter, the stones will crack. I have the problem on the east side because the exterior plaster on that side wasn’t finished due to the weather, and over the winter, spalling occurred. It’s only a 'cosmetic defect' since it will be covered by the plaster, but you don’t have to provoke it.

And cracks will form no matter when you plaster because the house settles over the years. My first house developed cracks in the interior after about 10 years.
