Plaster greasy clinker bricks of fireplace

I have a brick fireplace at home, but it already looks very greasy. Can I simply plaster it with chimney plaster or do I need to consider other things?

Please provide more details first on whether the fireplace is open or closed. :rolleyes:

So if it is open, be sure to cover the heat-exposed areas with fireproof material, otherwise find out which plaster is resistant to severe heat changes.

Clean stones thoroughly and always use bonding primer. I believe gypsum plaster is well suited for these temperature fluctuations.

There is oven cleaner that can be used directly, underneath that a quartz-containing base. It should then hold. After a few days, heat it properly and see if it holds. Otherwise, get in touch here again.
