Hello everyone. We have a trumpet vine next to our garage. Recently, there are also small children in the neighborhood. Would it be better to remove the plant? As far as I know, these trumpet vines are poisonous. Could I be held legally responsible if I leave the plant and the children get poisoned by it, or are these plants not that dangerous after all? Hope someone can help me ... Best regards Flori

hi flori, children can very well poison themselves. the angel's trumpet is one of the most poisonous potted plants ever. you should really place the plant in a spot where it is not accessible to small children if you want to be on the safe side. you can explain it to older children, but small children playing in the garden are really at risk. best regards, yung

To name a few numbers here: - approx. 100,000 children suffer poisoning accidents per year - 10,000 of them have to be treated in hospital because of this - in 500 cases the condition is life-threatening - poisonings caused by plants are the 3rd most common reason Therefore I would say: better remove poisonous plants from the garden if children play there. Best regards, Gartenbau

Hi everyone!

Yes, definitely with toddlers. An alternative would be a sufficient enclosure of the plant. Or a hedge would certainly also look quite good.

Hi!
So it’s unbelievable that so many children suffer poisoning from plants. I really never would have thought that! It really means: proceed with caution! Many may not even know that they have such poisonous plants in their garden...

hi,

I do believe that children who are a bit older very well understand when you explain to them that this or that plant is poisonous. I also think that poisoning cases almost only occur when children are not informed, or when they are too young to be aware of a danger.
