Hello everyone,

I am currently working on the future design of the driveway/carport/green beds.

Now I would prefer not to border the "beds" with raised curbs made of paving stones, but rather with galvanized "lawn edging" or stainless steel sheet metal, as I would like to create curved areas. Furthermore, I would like to build it in a way that the separation between the paving and the bed is barely noticeable, which is why the thin sheet metal on a roll is suitable.
Has anyone ever built it like this? How thick should the sheet metal be?
There are also systems made of plastic, which are fixed with ground nails. Has anyone ever used these?

I would be happy to receive reports of experiences.

I wouldn't do that on driveways. The weight of the car pushes the paving aside. I would rather set the edges, which are to be mortared, a bit deeper.

Thin sheet/thick sheet. Thin sheets like the lawn edging sheets do not hold loaded stones in place over time, thick sheets you cannot bend. It also won’t just keep the desired flex but will snap back straight again. You could mortar the sheets deep in, but then you would need to work with counterpressure until it is fixed. That would be one option. But then the sheets would be redundant, since you could just mortar the paving stones.

You still have to cut the paving stones, that will be a tedious job.

I saw this here at a neighbor’s, these are at least 7-8m thick profiles that were concreted in, looks very good. He bordered the terrace and the path around the house with it, I would like to take a picture but that would probably be too much.

Yes, I had thought of concreting in the 15-20 cm high sheets with a backrest at the front and back. I assumed that then nothing more would happen. I like it when the separation is not visible. Or we make the border with a paving stone rotated 90°. That would also be possible. Well, I just want to gather ideas first. They definitely should not be curbs.

I am quite aware that the curved contour also has disadvantages, but I have already drawn it; I think it fits well. Attached is a sketch.

On the left you can see the cistern cover. The area is supposed to have reeds, pampas grass, and shrubs, covered with lava granulate, so I can still access the cistern. On the right is the carport that is supposed to go in front of the garage. The other two green areas should be planted to reduce the large paved area. (after the green area approx. 130 m²) Maybe there are other ideas.

There are probably also chamfered edges, but I don’t remember the name anymore and I also don’t know if they are suitable for curves. Maybe [Rasenkeile] or something? We didn’t install them because there is so little humus above them that the lawn dies/burns very easily there. But they might be something for planting beds?

Got 180 m2 paved this week.
Terraces, parking lot, paths...

Only the essentials got Border.
The rest did not.

(p.s the parking lot had to get Border)
