I would rather say "normally" is actually "from the inside out".

Sorry for asking, so do I start at the edge? I once saw someone who started in the middle and then went right and left to the edges.

I would start right in the middle of the area because you have to stop least there: "leftover pieces" are most noticeable there.

Starting in the middle only in the sense of the middle of an edge would be nonsense.

Do you have a gate or a distinctive point somewhere that will serve as the "entrance"? Then I would start from there.

Not really. Attached is a picture of the corner that will be paved. I can only access it from the garden, as all sides (right, left, opposite) are not accessible. My plan is as follows. Place the edging stones along my area (option 2). Then start laying at the front left edge. Is that okay?
