Parquet - which type of wood is recommended?

Hello everyone! We are currently building a house and want to lay parquet flooring in the living/dining room. We have decided on pre-finished parquet that looks like this vertical lamella or industrial parquet. Now the question is, which wood to choose: Maple/Birch Ash This parquet is only available oiled and not lacquered :confused: Is that a problem if you have small children and a dog? Too sensitive?? The Maple/Birch would match our stair treads better (they are beech steamed - this color tone is also present in the parquet) and the surface is silkier than Ash, which feels somehow rougher, woodier... Does anyone know which wood is more robust of the two??

Ash is definitely more robust than maple or birch. When it comes to durability, take a look at bamboo. That is really tough.

However, you shouldn't have any illusions. With children and a dog, it will look worn in some places after a certain amount of time. The slats are always moving, so dirt always gets in. The oiled parquet has to be handled quite carefully and regularly re-oiled.

An acquaintance has the bamboo variant with two children, and it doesn't look good everywhere anymore either. Maybe it also depends on how diligent you are. Riding a Bobbycar definitely didn't do it any favors.
