We would like to install a new floor covering in three rooms (2 children's rooms and an office). Currently, all three rooms have carpet. The rooms have radiator heating - so no underfloor heating. The new floor covering should be durable, as the children (7 and 4 years old) play on the floor a lot.

Which floor covering is best suited for this? Parquet or cork?

Thank you very much for your recommendations!

Both types of coverings are suitable for your purposes; both have advantages and disadvantages, but both are considered robust and durable. However, you must definitely pay attention to the wear resistance class, especially for the office (office chair wheels!). The wear resistance class is indicated by symbols on the packaging or at the point of sale. This would be the symbol for "suitable for chair wheels".

Hello,

I am revisiting this question. I have experience with both types of flooring.

The first thing is, of course, a question of price, because parquet is much more expensive than cork. Parquet is also too delicate for the children's room, especially when the children play with cars, then scratches appear quickly on the parquet. So we only have parquet in the living area.

So I have a cork floor in the children's room. However, we bought it untreated. As a protection, I then applied hard wax oil.

So in the office, I consider cork flooring unsuitable. Especially when wheelchairs are in use, this is harmful to the cork flooring. Parquet is better suited here.

For the children's room, I again consider cork flooring better than parquet.

Hello,

My tendency is of course also towards parquet. But I don't think it is good in all rooms. It depends on the wear of the floor in each case, and here cork can also fit well.

As already described, both have advantages and disadvantages. This needs to be weighed up, and the price should not be underestimated either. I also consider a cork floor to be good and especially a good alternative in the children's room.
