Parquet on underfloor heating, which type of wood is recommended?

I just have a quick question. Which parquet flooring is best suited for underfloor heating and which is not suitable at all? Can one say that - are there differences here? The reason I am asking about this is that I lived in a terraced house with underfloor heating and a beech floor. After 1 1/2 years the floor has already moved a lot and there are dark joints visible everywhere. That is not normal, is it? Now we are moving into our new house and during the interior construction and its planning the question arises which floor we choose. I would have liked an antique parquet floor "link entfernt" but now the question is whether this flooring is really suitable to be installed over underfloor heating. After all, we don't want to have to replace the floor again after just a few years.

I would be very happy to receive feedback!

Best regards

The dark grout is dirt. This will happen to you (more or less) always, since every wood works. With dark wood, you just don’t see it (e.g. Wenge I think is great = super color and almost unbreakable, oak "antique" or "barrique" etc. is also great).

Check the manufacturer's specifications to see if it is suitable. This should always be indicated.

Hello karinarofler,

That is one thing.
One should also additionally ensure that the thermal resistance of the top floor covering is not greater than 0.15 m²K/W.

I have also recently dealt with this and come to the following conclusions:

Suitable types of wood have a low thermal resistance and a low to medium equalization speed of wood moisture. Unsuitable, for example, are beech or alder; well-suited are oak or wenge. In addition, the thickness (due to thermal transfer) and the structure (2- or 3-layer instead of solid wood) should be chosen appropriately; possibly full-surface gluing is also sensible but not necessarily mandatory. Small-part wood structures (stick parquet) are less prone to joint formation than long planks because the joint formation is better distributed.

Also important are the preparatory measures and the later heating behavior:
- The screed must be ready for laying, i.e. dry enough so that no residual moisture gets into the parquet.
- The impact sound insulation must also have a very low thermal resistance and protect against rising moisture.
- Edge joints and, if necessary, expansion joints in large areas must definitely be provided.
- Prior storage of the parquet before installation under room conditions.
- The installation must be carried out professionally, preferably by a specialist company if one does not trust oneself or if full-surface gluing is to be done.
- The room temperature and humidity should later be kept relatively constant, especially during heating phases. A wood stove can, for example, sustainably influence the indoor climate.

Hello,

I hardly believe that Wenge (very dark) - due to its price - will find many enthusiasts here among the potential builders.

Rhenish greetings
