Paint the roof overhang

Hello everyone,
in our new building, the price includes that the roof rafters and battens are glazed twice with colorless glaze.
If you want it in a color (like we want it in white), you have to pay for it yourself or do it yourself.
The offer from the company is 850 euros and we are now unsure whether we should do it ourselves.
Some claim it is so much work that it is not worth doing it yourself, others say they get so dirty because they are already delivered in white that you have to go over them again anyway.
What do you think about it? Do you have any tips?

Hello, I had already painted my rafters twice with the carpenter before and a few more times after the roof was finished. As long as I had time and the scaffolding was still up. Because otherwise you can't get to them anymore. Mine are brown and now 6 years old. I would say they still look like on the first day. Regards Torsten

Hello, 850.00 sounds like a lot at first glance. But if the painter uses really good paint, the price is completely fair. Of course, no one knows how extensive the scope is. The best is if you can at least do the primer before assembling. Since wood generally always moves a bit, otherwise you will probably always see small brown uncoated streaks at the edges of the profile boards.

Don’t start painting with acrylic or solvent-based paints. Then it can happen that the paint starts flaking off in one or two years.
