Hello,

In a bedroom, we will glue glass fleece on the wall. Beforehand, it would be skimmed with Knauf surface filler. Is it possible to paint this glass fleece with dispersion silicate paint (with us Caparol Sylitol InnenSilikat), or does it not adhere? Alternatively, we would only skim the room (Knauf surface filler). Is this a suitable substrate?

Thank you very much

I would not use fiberglass fleece in the bedroom, as it is not vapor-permeable and you actually don’t need the stability in the bedroom. How did you come to that conclusion? Use regular painter’s fleece with 130-150g/m². It is vapor-permeable and you can paint over it with anything. Dispersion silicate paint works well. It is also vapor-permeable, highly alkaline, and therefore effective against mold. The surface filler is, in my opinion, a gypsum filler. That would hold as well (apply primer first), but from my point of view it has no advantage, is more difficult than painter’s fleece to do yourself, not alkaline and does not form a strong bond with the paint. If you have this done professionally and have enough money, use lime-cement plaster on Q3 then silicate paint, that is the most effective against mold. Do you want to do this yourself?

Hello,

I have to fill the wall because it is not straight (not a new building). But it is in the lower millimeter range. Would it be possible to

[*]smooth fill with Knauf surface filler
    [*]stick smooth fleece
    [*]apply dispersion silicate paint.

Is glass fleece really not vapor permeable? You can even "blow through" it.

Thank you very much

hmm, do you maybe mean reinforcing mesh? As far as I know, glass fleece is diffusion-tight at the latest when combined with adhesive and paint. I cannot rule out that there might be some products considered open (sd<=0.5). The question is, what do you expect from it in the bedroom? When filling, the question is whether you want to even out individual irregularities (normal) or fill the entire surface to get a smooth area that can be painted directly (I wouldn't trust myself as a layperson to do that). Sure, you can do that up there. But I doubt the meaningfulness.

There is, for example, the very prominent Stotap pro on YouTube. It is supposed to be a glass fleece and "breathable." Do you also view that critically?

I searched unsuccessfully for the sd-value in the Technical Data Sheet and found nothing. It makes me rather skeptical. It is also quite expensive, more than twice as expensive as simple renovation fleece.

Again:
What do you expect from glass fiber fleece in the bedroom? Do you have that much foot traffic there?
