Hello everyone,

I am looking for a way to install a camera near the front door so that you can see who is standing there. Unfortunately, during the new construction, I missed laying proper power at the doorbell itself, so I only have doorbell wiring here...

Next to the door, (half a meter away from the door) there are outdoor lights on the left and right at about 2 meters height. A colleague said there are lights with cameras (e.g. Steinel L600). I have heard some negative opinions about them. Does anyone have experience with this?

What has been laid are 4 CAT cables under the roof at each corner of the house. PoE cameras will be installed there eventually. However, I think with these cameras you cannot recognize who is at the door, but only that someone is there.

I do not need remote access via phone when I am away. I just want to see who is at the door when I am at home. So a solution with a supplied monitor is also possible (does not have to work via WLAN, internet, etc.).

Do you have any idea?

Best regards
Sebi

I am not familiar with the mentioned system. My camera uses 4-wire technology (doorbell wire). However, there are also numerous variants using radio. You should get advice at your local electronics store/hardware store. They can also demonstrate.

Do you have a photo of the entrance situation?

A photo would be good... and yes, the doorbell wire could also be sufficient, depending on which system you choose.

We had a camera from Netatmo, we placed it where a lamp used to be. However, it was in the garden and not for the front door. It worked quite well.
