Hi, we’re currently developing plot 16 and are now facing the question of the orientation of the solar panels. The house is positioned "sideways" on the plot, as the plot is. That means equal distances to the neighbors at the front and back. Gable roof facing each neighbor, gable therefore towards the street or the orchard meadow.

I recently had a conversation with the plumbing company regarding the orientation of the solar panels. I had always thought that solar panels are always oriented towards the south or west. Our roof now has an east (with a bit of south) – west (with a bit of north) orientation. Therefore, I’ve always assumed that our solar panels would be on the west side of our roof. When I look at the "old" new development area, in cases of a stronger west-east orientation they are also always on the west.

However, our plumber tends to favor an east orientation for us, with the reasoning that in the months when the solar panels noticeably deliver power, the hot water boiler already reaches 60 degrees by noon and then shuts off anyway. He will, however, get in touch with Buderus again to get their opinion.

What do you think about this topic?

Hi

I usually choose the west side.
In the winter months, high fog patches can often be expected in the morning.
In the summer months, the warmed drinking water can be well used for the washing machine and dishwasher in the afternoon, and the storage tank is then further heated by the sunlight.

Our house is oriented exactly north/south and our panels were installed on both the east and west sides, with the west side having the larger share. Since we work full-time, we need electricity more in the afternoons/evenings (even though it is still light in the summer!). Appliances with time preselection (washing machine, dryer, dishwasher) we usually run one after another from 12/1 pm, so everything is done when we come home :-).

You don't mean photovoltaic for electricity now, but solar panels for hot water?

We have our panels on the east side. Since we have no comparison, we had to rely on what the architect/plumber recommends. We are satisfied - the hot water is stored.

The apartment buildings here also have an east orientation.

Yep, meant hot water. Okay, then Westen might be the slightly better choice, but you can't go wrong with Ostern either.
