Order tiling materials yourself - tiles

We are building with architects and awarding the trades individually and are currently in the process of tendering the tiling work.

After endless searching, we have found tiles that we like. It was a tough process since we are not really keen on tiles. Now we are very happy that we have found something suitable, but the different types are not all available from a single supplier.
Ideally, I would like to procure the whole lot myself so that the tiler doesn’t have to start looking for any possible "exotic tiles" somewhere.

What are your experiences with providing such materials? Do tilers prefer this because they might not be able to get these special tiles everywhere, or do they rather not like it in order to make a bit of profit on the tiles as well?

So I had two tilers here and both said I should order some myself. With one, I could even have taken his discount. What they basically always choose themselves are the materials like glue, etc. However, unfortunately, this cannot be generalized.

Sure, the glue and all the stuff around it should definitely be brought by themselves! I'm sure every tiler has their own products for that. For me, it's "only" about the tiles (because apparently somewhat special).

But it's nice to hear that it might not be so unusual after all to order them yourself :)

Is common. Very few have a store. Most are purely craftsmen and buy themselves through [Baustoffhandel].

The "problem" with tiles is the logistics. 2-3 tons or more are just unloaded in front of your door. Who will move them? Clarify that beforehand :)

Most of the tile setters working with us are self-employed craftsmen. They will at most send you to their buddy who has a tile business and are otherwise happy if the material is on the construction site and doesn’t also have to be lugged up to the 2nd floor by them.
