Hey everyone,

I am in the process of planning a kitchen and am still not quite sure how to proceed.

I have almost planned the kitchen using the kitchen planner (it's relatively easy since there was already a kitchen before, which I want to keep in terms of the structure - but a new one is needed because mine is already 40 years old and even Bulthaup eventually loses the doors).

Now I would like to take advantage of the offer to have Ikea do the measurements if it makes sense, just to be really sure that everything fits. What exactly do they do there? And what do I have in my hands afterwards... a plan on paper? Or the numbers to enter into the planner? I wonder if I really need that? It's only one long side to measure (and the connections).

On Ikea's website it says you can order the measurement service if you order the kitchen through Homeshopping. Which I, however, do not want.

My plan:
- Plan the kitchen myself beforehand (done)
- Have Ikea do the measurements... and check if I planned correctly.
- Take the plan to my Ikea store to a nice kitchen advisor to have them review it and possibly make tips and changes.
- If everything is okay, use the shopping service to order and have everything delivered
- ... and have it assembled

Did I forget anything? Can I also have the measurement done if I then want to do everything at Ikea on site?

Probably it says something somewhere and I’m just "not yet" well informed. I have two small children running around here and I just don’t manage to read up that much.

It would be nice if you could help me. Or if you have a few other tips to share!

Best regards, caotina

Phew, I managed to reach customer service...

So I already got my questions answered. So much for only online shopping. So I’m inviting the gentlemen/ladies for the measurement and after that I can plan further.
Still, I wonder if I even need that for a single row... I can do a bit of calculating and measuring myself
Who did it and later said they could have just entered the dimensions themselves? I’m just thinking that if the gentlemen install it and something doesn’t fit... then I can say: But they (someone from Ikea) did the measuring
Well, measuring doesn’t cost anything. Since I chose Ikea and the kitchen will be expensive enough, it will be charged anyway.

oh, one more question: ... and do I understand correctly that all appliances in the kitchen have to be removed before Ikea can do the measuring? Like a "bare room"? I’m in the process of tearing everything out, but I’d still like to keep my dishwasher in the room for a while.
So far I’ve only sketched the connections "roughly" because the appliances will go in the same place and you have a bit of leeway with cables and water.

We measured the kitchen ourselves (including the position of the built-in extractor hood, water connections, and sockets) and then planned it using the kitchen planner, ordered it in the store, had it delivered, and then assembled it.

The only thing that went a bit wrong was that we wanted to place the dishwasher in front of the water connection, which of course doesn’t fit. So we simply swapped the positions of the dishwasher and sink.

But it must also be said that our kitchen was easy to measure and "work on" – a rectangular room, about 5 m long, 2.50 m wide, with a door and window each in the middle of the narrow side. That means we just planned cabinets etc. on the right and left (from the perspective of the door). Since we didn’t want to build the entire wall on both sides, the exact centimeter didn’t matter when measuring. Depending on the measuring method (folding rule, tape measure, ultrasound), we had deviations that would have caused problems if we had wanted to place cabinets from front to back.

Therefore: If the kitchen is easy to measure and you don’t need to know every single centimeter 100% precisely, you can do it yourself quite well. If it is more complicated, if the kitchen should go exactly from wall to wall or around the corner, then I would have it measured. As far as I know, this is also offset against the purchase price.

PS: For example, we deliberately used both the tall and the less tall wall cabinets on one side (tall ones to the left of the range hood, less tall ones to the right), because the ceiling has a slope, so it definitely wouldn't have looked good if the cabinets on one side had started directly under the ceiling and on the other side had a 10 cm gap.

This caused some confusion with the consultant in the kitchen department. She thought it would be better to have cabinets of the same height everywhere.

Now that everything is installed, our view has been confirmed: You only notice the ceiling is sloped if you really know and look intentionally.

Even the consultants are not infallible

Best regards, A.

Hello Andiii_98

huh, I don't understand a thing.

Your ceiling is crooked. You wanted uneven cabinets (Left 70 cm and right 92 cm tall cabinets)

IKEA builds cabinets of the same height and then it only stands out if how do you know? So the difference isn't that big? Or was the planner wrong and you now have the wrong cabinets hanging...

Sorry, I'm out...

So I understood it: The ceiling is so slanted that with continuous 92cm upper cabinets on one side there would have been almost no space above, and on the other side already 10cm. That is why they only installed 70cm high cabinets on the low side to mask this, contrary to the advice at IKEA.
Best regards
