Hello,

from old barn and house demolitions I have a few hundred old bricks, which we would like to use in the summer for building a chicken coop. I would rather not use concrete lintels for the openings for doors and windows, as in my opinion that does not fit visually.

Can you tell me what is best to use as a lintel that also roughly fits the time period of the old bricks? In our house we have replaced lots of wooden lintels with concrete during the renovation, which are no longer visible. However, I do not know if wood is a good idea for a building that will not be plastered.

Maybe you have experiences and ideas and want/can help me.

Many thanks and best regards

Felix

Take concrete and make a privacy screen out of wood in front of it.

You can also cover the falls with straps.

Hello,

thank you very much for your suggestions. Simply "just" covering/cladding the concrete lintel is of course also a good idea. Then I have the full supporting load-bearing capacity of the concrete lintel with a nicer appearance.

Best regards

Felix

Exposed concrete lintels also go well with [Klinker], I think.

There are also brick lintels. If you want to do it perfectly, build a form and make rounded arches, just like in the old days. That just makes the rest more expensive. You will surely find old clinker facades somewhere where you can see that. The image search of a search engine is also helpful.
