Hello,
We are in a bind. We bought a house last year, intending to renovate it. After the purchase, our new neighbors made us aware that the smell in the house is not easy to get rid of and recommended that we perform an air analysis. We did it. The result was shocking. Chloranisoles and formaldehyde levels were about 200% above the permitted "norm." According to an acquaintance (expert) who works for a remediation company, we know that we can no longer renovate but must tear down the house and build anew. A crisis situation... we were not prepared for this. We had some savings in the account, but they were supposed to be enough for the most necessary renovation work. Apart from the obligation to take out a new loan, we now also have the demolition costs to deal with. I am currently at home with small children, so my husband is the sole earner.
We are looking for a solution... naively? Where can you get (additional) money from...
I once read on the internet (there was a court ruling from Hamburg about this) that in cases when you have to replace old with new due to health reasons, you can apply to the tax office for certain "financial relief." Unfortunately, I did not save the document and cannot find it anymore. I received no information on this matter from the tax office.
Who knows more about this, who could help? To whom can you turn for assistance on how to solve this problem?
We naively believed the owner of the house and the real estate agent that the smell came from old flooring... Now our savings are gone... We are currently paying twice... rent and the loan for the property...
Thank you in advance for any help and serious tips.
