Old building with room ventilation and "cooling"?

The ducts of the controlled residential ventilation are simply too small to be able to cool efficiently; just look across the pond or into any office building with central air conditioning. The cross-sections of the ventilation ducts are significantly larger, and not just for the fun of it, but because it is necessary.
