Odor from the socket and through the gap in the prefabricated garage house

Hello,
maybe someone here can help me.

Since March of this year, the socket for the roller shutter upstairs in the bedroom (instead of the power outlet) as well as the switches for the electric roller shutters downstairs in the living room have been smelling bad. Furthermore, I have now noticed that this strange odor is also coming from the gap between the house wall and the prefabricated garage.

The humidity in the rooms is normal. The mold test from the indoor air was negative.

What could it possibly be?

The house is now about 5 years old.

Friends think it might possibly be wasps that have built a nest in the roller shutter boxes or in the space between the garage.

But wouldn’t you have to hear that? I haven’t noticed an unusually large number of wasps either.

Maybe someone has experience with this.

Thanks and best regards
Stephanie

What exactly does it smell like? It could also be a dead animal decomposing there.

We have already had wasps in the roller shutter box a few times and noticed it clearly there. But mostly by the wasps at the window, not by the smell or noise. However, we also had a nest that we didn’t notice at all. Only when I opened the box to change the strap. Then it stank as well.
Does it smell more like an animal, musty, or maybe fishy? In the latter case, something in the socket might also be burning.

I would describe it as a corrosive, stinging smell. Not musty. The strange thing is that the bedroom is at the top right and the living room is below it. But on the same side. As I said, I have already had the mold tested. You can't see anything anyway. We also have a ventilation system. Passive in the living room and bedroom. In the bedroom, the stench was sometimes so strong that we haven't slept there since because it burned in the nose. And between the house wall and the garage there is an air gap that smells just the same. I only noticed it today.

Hi,

I suspect something similar to a "fox den" as well. Often it is mice in the walls and what you then smell is the droppings or the decaying animals.
The best thing is to take out/turn off the fuse of the socket and then unscrew the socket and also remove the socket insert; maybe you can already see mouse droppings then.

Have a pest control professional check for animals (mice / rats / wasps / etc.). It doesn't cost much, but if it is a (decomposing) animal, they have good means at hand to eliminate the decomposition odor or to "escort" the animals out.

If it is not animals but the smell is rather fishy-pungent-chemical, be sure to have an electrician check it - that sounds more like an electrical wire that is not in order.
