Hello everyone,

we bought a fairly new house at the end of 2019 (built in 2017). The house is a prefabricated house, and the warranty for it expires this year. Unfortunately, we found various defects in the house after we bought it (e.g., leaking gutters, doors not closing properly, ...). Since these are minor defects, I have not taken any further action except contacting the construction company. In most cases, they have dealt with the issues. Due to the current economic situation, I have been sitting the last few days in my new room working from home. Unfortunately, I had to notice with alarm that with the first rays of sunshine, noises came from the wooden wall (my room has a sloped roof). On the windowsill lay a half-dismembered beetle and a yellow "something" (see picture). Today, two days later, the noise was still audible. However, the sun was already gone. I thought maybe a beetle got lost in the rafters?

--> I also made a video with sound recording, unfortunately I cannot upload it here.

Who can help me? Who has experience with this?

I really hope for your help!

Thanks and best regards
minuk

Huh? Not even 5 years according to the Building Code? I can hardly make out anything in the photo. But it could be that you have guests in the roof, for example a nest of some type of beetle or wasps? I don't know if the latter (wasps) is possible, but basically it could be that something has settled behind the wood over the winter, which is now becoming more active again. However, that would be your problem alone and not the builder's. Regarding the other defects: it can happen that doors warp or the gutter becomes leaky. Also check the brackets or the maintenance joints. None of this is covered by the warranty.

I would also consider that to be a beetle and the yellow "Irgendwas" to be insulation material, which it probably couldn't digest as well as expected. Then it probably fell down - I suspect from under the eaves (?). The cause might be an unlocked access to a nesting site, so in that sense a deficiency, yes, but in the end the pest control operator is probably still your pleasure.

Thank you very much for the answer! Attached is another picture. The construction company had only recently closed this slit at the edge of the house at our request.
Additionally, there were similar ones at other spots on the roof. The whole thing was seen as a "cosmetic defect," left as is since 2017, and now closed due to our purchase.

Thanks for the answer,

I haven’t spotted any wasps; I’m leaning more toward a beetle. I have posted pictures of the roof edge below. Maybe the entrance door is coming from there...

Meanwhile, we also have a problem with the humidity in the house. It is around 20% - 26%, despite airing out. Normally, they say 40-50% is good. We have already tried humidifiers and hanging laundry. Helps minimally. In my room, there are already 4 plants...

Is that normal? Do you know about this?

Thanks and best regards

yes, June beetles
No, no idea. I think they are more likely to be in the soil.
