at the hardware store there are square aluminum tubes with the appropriate connectors. Make a "!Käfig" out of them, cover it with rabbit wire and place it on top. Possibly somehow connect it to the chimney so it doesn't blow away. That should be enough.

simply riveted a few bird spikes and the matter is settled.

I don't understand the idea with the chicken wire. They would sit on that too, wouldn't they? Spikes would be the best.
