Hi everyone,

our plot was filled and compacted with soil and an 80cm layer of gravel on top. The surveyor has already measured in the house. Now the slab company came and said that we should have laid a ring earthing conductor beforehand. According to their scope of work, however, this is laid in the frost skirts, but these are probably not needed because of the 80 cm of gravel (frost depth according to the report 80cm). The slab company said – no big problem, they would lay out flags which should then be connected with a rod earthing conductor. What do you think about that? What should we do? The slab is not yet laid. Thank you very much for your help. Lennart

I would call the electrician as soon as possible. He is responsible for professional execution, must document everything, and confirm this to the power supplier when registering this house.

Hi,

the electrician initially assured me that he would install a rod earth electrode, but now he has recommended a subsequent ring earth electrode around the house. The question is, can this be done on gravel or does it have to be in the ground? According to the specifications of the slab company, they normally install the ring earth electrode in the frost protection strip. I am paying the same price even though no frost protection strips + earth electrodes are being installed; can I insist that they at least install the ring earth electrode?

Update: The basement builder (floor slab company) made frost skirts with a lot of grumbling and embedded the ground electrode in them. Since this was included in the scope of work, there were no additional costs. However, they wanted to get out of it until the last minute: "The civil engineer should lay it later, etc. etc." I can therefore only recommend to anyone who has the same problem to insist that the ground electrode is installed. Best regards

Ringender should also have been installed deep into the grown soil beneath the gravel layer.
