New cast floor slab looks terrible!

Newly poured concrete slab is not smooth. It was poured yesterday. Temperature today is 29°C. In the middle, there is a very coarse line, somewhat like a snake across the concrete slab. I have to ask the site manager tomorrow.

But is this even something normal?

Hello, it looks to me as if there was a long pause during the concreting and the concrete had already become too stiff for the new and old concrete to bond. It is said that without a planned joint, one should always pour fresh concrete onto fresh concrete. If that was the case, the joint is very likely not 100% tight. I would discuss this with an expert before the basement walls arrive. However, they are probably already ordered for Monday.

That might just be acceptable, or it could be a major botch. As already mentioned, this is a starting edge where the mixer was not present.

Whether it is still okay depends on many factors, including the load case of soil moisture, the structural function of the floor slab, etc... You can only clarify this with an expert.

Construction is starting with us soon - so I am very interested in the case. Has anything come up yet? In the end, was it not so bad after all?
