Network operator refuses gas home connection - Is this legitimate?

Hello,

I want to live in a new development area in Lower Saxony. To avoid any direct conclusion about the network operator, I would first like to leave out the exact location of the construction site. Maybe someone is reading here...

I have purchased a plot in a new development area (about 50 parcels) and now want to build a house there. Currently, there is only flat land, so the area still needs to be fully developed.

I have submitted an application for a gas house connection to the responsible network operator. In response, I was informed that for cost reasons no gas house connections are being offered anymore. This means the entire area will not be connected. I was advised to look for an alternative energy source.

My question: Does the network operator have the right to do this? Is there not some obligation to connect to the gas network? Electricity is available. Gas is not. I did not want a heat pump or similar, and am currently really perplexed because I just want to have a gas connection.

Thank you very much. Paul

Nope, not that I know of. Gas is a luxury. Where it is available is lucky, the rest are out of luck. You can live well without it too.

Yep, you have to endure that and install a gas tank in the garden or install an alternative heating system (pellets, heat pump, etc.). No obligation on the part of the supplier!

The background is that the utility providers develop residential areas with great effort, but many of the builders no longer want to use a gas connection. In the energy calculations of the new buildings, gas heating systems are rather disadvantaged, coupled with the general witch hunt against fossil fuels.

That's how it is. You don't have to. You don't want to, deal with it.

We even have the problem in the city that gas is available, but the supplier does not want to deliver because he prefers to sell his district heating, which is 4 times as expensive. Unfortunately, this is also allowed.
