Hello everyone,

I am new here and have a problem with water in the garden.

Our house is about 200 years old, without a basement, and is located in a terrain hollow.
Surrounded only by trees and fields. Isolated location outside of town.

A drainage collector runs past the house, which was installed more than 40 years ago as part of land consolidation.
It is now leaking in many places, and you can see water bubbling from the ground or the soil above collapsing.
The municipality says "too expensive, we won't do anything."
The water management office also explains that surface water could be another cause if there are now frequent flooding situations.

What to do?
Last year, a foundation of the terrace roof was already undermined. It has sunk, and we had to renew it.
Will the whole house eventually collapse?

The soil here is very sandy.
We are considering whether to install a drainage around the house or dig trenches.
Or something entirely different?

I would be very grateful for tips and experiences.
Also regarding dealing with and experiences with offices and authorities.

Best regards, staengler

Hello,

if the drainage collector is not on your property, then the other property owner is responsible, meaning the municipality, so that it functions properly. If it is on your property, then you are obliged. The municipality must provide a remedy here – fight for it.

Of course, drainage around the house is not bad, but given the age, you will bring a lot of moisture to your house. This can in turn lead to moisture damage.

Describe your situation in more detail, then I can respond again.

Until then, I wish you no precipitation

Regards

Hello,

What exactly info do you need?
Unfortunately, I am no expert on the subject...

The collectors were laid about 40 years ago. Even back then, it supposedly didn’t work optimally here due to the sandy soil.
Then the larger equipment of the farmers, tree roots, etc.
There are definitely many holes and sand inflows.
Partly this collector runs across fields. But 200 meters each left and right past our house up to a creek exclusively on municipal land.

The groundwater level is visible to me in our old well, which is integrated into our terrace.
On very bad days it is practically 5 cm below the house.
So basically we are living on a raft.

If then water comes from above and from the side, it becomes very critical. Last winter the fire department was already here once.

The municipality is just stonewalling and now trying to talk their way out of it by blaming the surface water that was brought up by the WWA.
At the town hall we are certainly already considered troublemakers and constant complainers.
I will now demand insight into the "text part of the land consolidation plan" with a deadline. Because it states whether the municipality is actually responsible.
Of course, it can no longer be found and nobody wants to look for it either.
I will probably have to mention the word "action for failure to act."

Hello,

I don't like it at all.

One idea would be to involve the press and point out [Euer Problem]. Or inquire at the district office/[Wasserwirtschaftsamt] and request an on-site appointment.

The sand is probably the main problem, because as you rightly say, the collector gets silted up and the roots also grow in additionally.

If nothing helps, then ask for legal advice.

Regards
