Modernization of pellet heating to gas / is a more modern upgrade worthwhile?

Hello everyone,

My fiancée and I found a bungalow from 1972 with 160m2 this spring. However, it has a pellet heating system with solar from 2013 installed, which is a big drawback for us in case of buying the house (outdated heating method).

I simply claim that the heating costs for pellets will rise higher than oil and gas.

Now we are considering whether a modernization, e.g. to gas or even an air heat pump, would pay off and be a worthwhile investment for 15-20 years.

My research showed that this "box" alone would cost between €8,000-9,000 for the air heat pump. Average costs including installation for an air heat pump are between €12,000-20,000.

How would you handle this? Would you keep the pellet heating or modernize to something else?

Looking forward to your suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

1. Why is a pellet heating system from 2013 outdated? 2. What savings do you expect in the next 10-15 years to make the conversion worthwhile? 3. In your opinion, have the costs for electricity or oil/gas developed so positively in recent years that it makes sense to rely on this "positive" development for the coming years as well?

In my opinion, your idea is complete nonsense. Oil and gas will continue to become more expensive, electricity even more so. Invest €10,000 (which by the way has to be financed, making it even more nonsensical?) and think about what you "save". What are the heating costs for the bungalow? What saving potential or lower cost increase do you expect? If you visualize this, you will quickly realize that your investment will never pay off. For example, €1,200 heating costs per year, after conversion you save 20% each year = €250 (the question is of course, why should you save that much with the new heating system?). This means you get your investment back after 40 years – if the new heating system even lasts that long. In that time, you could earn money with €10,000 as an investment or save the interest on the financing.

I would be happy to find a modern heating system in an old house!

For an efficiently running heat pump, your underfloor heating will probably not be designed.
A 5-year-old heating system is practically new.

Hi

How do you come to the conclusion that a nearly 100% renewable energy-powered heating system that is five years old is an outdated heating method?

There are reliable and unreliable pellet heating systems. If yours runs without any issues: definitely leave it as it is. I have a few years of professional experience in servicing these things. Important: absolutely dry storage room!

Pellet heating is one of the best heating technologies, the biggest disadvantage is the high purchase price. But that is irrelevant for you, as it is already available.

A conversion to gas would actually have only disadvantages. How do you come up with such an absurd idea?
