Hello,

we are currently planning our new kitchen, which has to be accommodated in a small kitchen room of about 6 sqm.

At the moment, we are planning only with Ikea, as with all other kitchen brands there apparently is an information embargo and you only find out something when you are sitting with the more or less shady kitchen representative in the studio. This is unacceptable to me; I do not want to have to decide on any kitchen elements on the hot seat but rather do this calmly and on my own responsibility.

The idea, briefly summarized, is to have a "normal" kitchen row in the lower right with a freestanding fridge on the right, oven and stove, dishwasher, and sink on the far left. Above, there should initially be only a long shelf so that the kitchen does not appear oppressive. If necessary, wall cabinets will be retrofitted here if we need the space. On the left side, due to space constraints, we are forced to use cabinets with reduced depth, otherwise the walkable space would be too small. There is a row of drawers at the bottom. Above are wall cabinets of different heights. On the right, indicated by the dark gray door, an open cabinet should hang in which the microwave disappears. On the left side, the wall cabinet is higher because the kitchen machine that requires space upwards should stand on the surface. Between them are the deeper wall cabinets for plates, bowls, glasses, etc. The left work surface is intended less for working and more as a storage area for permanent kitchen appliances such as a kettle, the aforementioned kitchen machine, grain mill, etc. For this reason, the unfortunately very small work surface on the right should remain relatively free so that it is at least available for working. Since we want glass on the wall cabinets on the left, we have decided on a second front that picks up the color of the worktop.

We are grateful for any remarks and criticism!

Hello,

In the pictures, it looks like the window can no longer be opened properly.

Other than that, I like everything very much, but I would install the wall cabinets on the other side.

Hello, a cooker hood above the stove significantly reduces grease on the cabinets. The sink close to the wall is impractical. I have that out of necessity and find it annoying when working. An alternative would be 40 cm cabinets instead of the 80 cm ones, but not much fits into the 40 cm, so you have to consider which is the lesser evil. Probably still the sink near the wall. If the upper and lower cabinets are the same depth, the work surface cannot be used effectively. Therefore, I would rather hang the cabinets on the other side.

Hello,

the window issue is a point, correct, we have not yet received the apartment handed over finally, which is why we cannot look at it exactly yet.

We don't find a range hood very necessary/helpful. It also gets greasy.

The sink on the wall is a makeshift solution, but we are not big hand washers anyway, and if it were on the right, continuous surface area would be lost again.

The work surface on the left will hardly be used for working but, as mentioned, mainly as a storage area for electrical appliances and such things that should always be within reach.

Now we are considering using the solid Laxarby front instead of Veddinge plus the brown one. However, we have concerns about stability, as this front is clearly much softer than the chipboard fronts. Are there any experiences/opinions on this?

A wonderful good morning,

You are right.. even if you have a range hood, after some time there is still grease on the cabinets. I reply to that: "How is it WITHOUT A RANGE HOOD??"

And how does the shelf above the cooking area look then??
Especially since a range hood is also responsible for the smell... ;)

You wrote that the microwave is planned in the dark opening (opposite the worktop row)... in the tight space, it might look calmer if the other "short depth-reduced" wall cabinet is made the same size as the others.
With a glass door, the inside only really looks good if order and structure are present..

My little tip: If you are planning an induction cooktop, you can save the kettle (also as a placeholder that needs a power outlet).. A water kettle is just as fast..

Otherwise, I would (but this is from my own experience with family) rather place the wall cabinets on the work side.. because that is where I usually spend time (dough, washing, cooking,) and where I need easier access to spices, dishes, cooking utensils. Especially since having to constantly turn around, a possible second person in the kitchen lives a little more dangerously... :D
The Ikea wall cabinets are all depth-reduced; this one wall cabinet in the catalog is actually intended more as a filler for tall cabinets.

What kind of kitchen machine do you have? Grain mill? Then height is naturally a relevant factor. A Hawos is different compared to Häussler etc., especially regarding the filling funnel. ;)

To enlarge the surface; there are lots of great wooden boards or other materials that can be placed over the cooktop (e.g. for cutting bread, kneading dough and preparing accordingly).

Do you still have a pantry?

What are your needs? Cooking together, family, guests, dietary philosophy, budget??

Regards Hochglanz

Hello Hochglanz,

@Dunstabzugshaube: Not so much :D Well, it definitely depends on what and how much you cook, but at the moment we have a hood and hardly ever use it. The smell disappears of course through the window ;)

@Mikrowelle: As mentioned, we have to leave the space "opposite" the microwave free for the kitchen machine. It’s a Kenwood Major, which gets quite tall with attachments (mixer, food processor).
The thing with the glass cabinets is a good point, we are also considering whether to have only the lower part with glass and closed cabinets above across the entire width for the ugly stuff ;)

We don’t have a pantry, but there is a "built-in" hidden shelf in the hallway where larger quantities of dry goods like cans, pasta, rice, grains, etc. are supposed to go.

Mostly we cook alone, occasionally as a couple, but we manage that, our current kitchen is very similarly laid out, so we know how to avoid each other ;)

At the moment, we are very clueless regarding the fronts.
The mix of Veddinge plus Hyttan is rather off the table, it should be uniform, but we can’t find the right one.
Laxarby would be nice, but that pink tint, I don’t know if it won’t soon get annoying. Also, the solid, thinly lacquered fronts seem to me considerably more sensitive than the thick lacquered chipboard fronts.
We just don’t want foil-covered fronts, which really limits the choice. As pleasant as I find that there aren’t 300 fronts like in a kitchen studio, we’re currently missing the perfect hit.
