Hi everyone,

a quick question. What is the best way to build a non-load-bearing interior wall for soundproofing?

My carpenter said he always does it with KVH 6x8 cm, OSB 12 mm on both sides, and GKB 12.5 mm for a 13 cm thick wall. Another one uses 28x78 mm boarding as studs (but then you have to screw the OSB panels very precisely), and yet another uses CW metal stud profiles, he said these transmit less or no sound at all compared to wood...
Is that correct?

Hello,

basically you can remember: sound travels through mass.
Conclusion: I find the carpenter's solution the best, although I would use 15mm OSB and please make sure that the KVH is straight!
Otherwise you will have a crooked wall afterwards! Actually, BSH (glulam beam) is better. It might cost 1-2 euros more per meter, but it is straight and does not warp so quickly.

That way you can also attach something to the wall later, even as a non-professional with a normal nail or screw without a dowel.

Mirko
