I have a cistern with a pump and used it to water my garden in the summer. Since in spring, due to moving in etc., there was no time (and also no final position for the withdrawal point), I simply attached a garden hose to the pump, which now lies above ground up to the withdrawal point (water tap). Here is a sketch:

The question: How do I make this frost-proof? My idea was to install some kind of valve at the blue circle, which I would open in winter to let all the water in the hose run back into the cistern. The pump would then, of course, be off (I don’t need water in winter).
Are there better options for my installation? How have you solved this? I’d rather not completely dismantle the pump every winter (unless that significantly extends the pump’s lifespan).
