We bought some sacks of sand at the hardware store and incorporated them yesterday using a power tiller (PowerPlus motor tiller 1050 W). The result is astonishing at first and second glance, and the incorporation really went quickly, although not without effort. No comparison to digging or aerating with a fork. In this way – with some patience but without heavy equipment – one can also transform large areas of clay soil into vegetable beds through one's own work. For nutrient supply, however, I would still resort to compost, which can be incorporated in the same way. We are gradually cultivating our garden this way.

Tip: You can often get sand in small quantities cheaper at the building materials dealer than at the hardware store.

Correct, for the remaining areas it's definitely the first choice. The hardware store was for testing whether it actually helps. However, we will probably not need "small quantities" either. We easily have 700 sqm here that still need to be worked on.
