I agree with you, we definitely want the chamfer, we should have had it poured right away. My father thinks he can handle it, we'll see.

The construction could become problematic now because of Corona. I also want the new infections to decrease, no question, but if the construction site is closed for 4 weeks, it will cost me €4000 and there is a risk that everything will get soaked... even if we cover it.
We have already obtained plans just in case, but how watertight everything is, no idea.

The shell builders would theoretically start on the upper floor on Monday. Their supplier already said, "We decide day by day." The roofer ordered the wood last week, I don’t know where, he is in Bavaria (we are building in Main Kinzig district, not far from Bavaria).

But there is nothing to do except wait anyway.

I wish strong nerves to everyone in a similar situation. And of course, that everyone stays healthy!

Hello, I wanted to ask how the staircase looks by now, as I am also considering whether I want an exposed concrete staircase.. Did you end up applying anything to it to make it easier to clean?

Hey,

in about 3-4 weeks I can show you results. There will still be Beton Ciré applied, which will then be sealed. I'm curious myself and worried that it won't meet our expectations.

If you still have enough time, get a quote from a concrete factory for a built-in staircase. Our risers or steps turned out very nice with the on-site concrete, exactly what we wanted. But the treads unfortunately not at all.. sometimes there is a hollow in the back fifth, sometimes a bulge. Then a half footprint on the landing..

I’m attaching some photos. Unfortunately, I don’t have any detailed or current ones, they are from August. Maybe I’ll remember tomorrow and take some.

Thank you for the info, yes I will ask whether my staircase comes as a prefab or is poured on site. My basement staircase is only going to be painted anyway and I have already looked at it in a finished house from the company. Is the Beton Ciré applied by a company or do you do it yourselves, or can it be done by oneself? I have already seen exposed concrete staircases, and I didn’t like how they looked. I would like to have the option to "beautify" the whole thing then.

So my staircase would come as a prefabricated part, my supplier writes something like "will then only be puttied, sanded and sealed." However, it is recommended here to do it in a way that you can later put a covering on it if you no longer want to see the exposed concrete at some point. How is that supposed to work? The staircase ends flush at the top with the floor, that is with the covered floor, so how is it supposed to "leave out" something to be able to cover it later? Can someone explain that to me? My supplier says either I cover the staircase or I leave it as it is, but I cannot later tile the exposed concrete staircase!?

Hi,

Correct, retrofitting is difficult. It can only be done in such a way that the top step where the staircase rests is integrated into the floor covering on the ceiling. However, I am of the opinion that the FT stairs are not that great. Is yours cast negative? Otherwise, you would have, as seen above, a cast and a rubbed surface on the top side. That is why I think the problem with the result and the expectation arises with the self-made one.
