Hello,

our new terrace with southwest orientation is almost finished. It has a depth of 4.2m and is 9m wide.
Later we would like to have a lounge. However, we would already like to have a parasol now, as summer is approaching quickly.
It is important that it is stable and does not turn away at the slightest gust of wind. The best option is probably a cantilever umbrella, right?
What can you recommend?

How much terrace do you want to shade? Should it be mobile? How much money are you willing to spend? Whether an offset umbrella or something else also depends on the local conditions. I have two Schneider Rhodos (one twist 3x3m and one grande 4x3m) in use and have been very satisfied so far. 360 degrees rotatable, tiltable, and the twist also tiltable sideways, so you can catch all the sun positions well with mine. Both are concreted in, but can also be used with a base. Glatz is probably the pinnacle, but also costs accordingly. The rolling base from Glatz alone costs more than my entire umbrella ;)

The "normal" Glatz base, however, is absolutely overpriced when you look at the quality of workmanship and choice of materials. If that is supposed to be the ultimate - puuuhh? (My brother has one, I actually "had it in my hands" for a party today, and my brother was also somewhat (very) disappointed when it was delivered back then. The umbrella itself is absolutely stable and well thought-out, also regarding the choice of materials, just the base ....

I also just have the Schneider Rhodos Grande or the Outflexx in 400x300. Both similarly priced. The Outflexx apparently has the better fabric. 250mg instead of 200 with the Schneider and also 80+ UV protection compared to the Schneider with 50+. My price range would be around 600-700 euros. I find it a pity that both are not tiltable sideways like the twist. The twist would be too small for me at 3x3. How well does the Schneider behave in the wind? Also, can you add a roller foot to the Schneider?

The included base is actually quite basic, the rollable Glatz base is, at least when I looked at it, of very high quality. But at almost 1000€ without plates also hugely overpriced ;)

You can screw the umbrella onto any base with the matching drilling.

Moderate wind is no problem, with the optional wind guard you can additionally stabilize everything. Due to their design, cantilever umbrellas tend to have a disadvantage in the wind, especially in gusts.

Bald is great. But an umbrella in the size of 4x4 meters requires 600kg-1000kg anchoring. Therefore, the movable base is huge. But it’s not easily moved... We have the sleeve for embedding in concrete. There is now also a joint for this. All-in, you currently have to calculate >10k. This probably exceeds the budget for most for a sunshade. The question is whether an awning over half the terrace wouldn’t be more sensible. Certainly not more expensive either.
