Hello,

I have a question regarding the driveway to the garage. Our property is on a slight slope, so the garage cannot be built at street level and a driveway is needed. I have created a sketch for this (see attachment). The question is basically "simple": How long would the driveway need to be? I read online that you should not plan for more than a 15% incline; if I plan for just under 15%, I get a driveway length of 7 m (a total drop of 1 meter). That would be ideal for us because then the 4 m in front of the house would be planned level, then the descent would come on the side and the garage at the bottom. Our architect advised against this solution and recommended letting the driveway start from the street or go all the way to the street. But that would be impractical for the entire yard. I find it hard to assess whether "our" solution is practical.

I have outlined my thoughts and made my calculations based on the elevation plan. With a garage height of 2.7 m, I arrive at a slab height of 204.5 m above sea level. I would plan the driveway to be 3 m wide, leaving 3.5 m to the house. The greatest height difference would be 1 m, where you could, for example, slope it off over 0.5 m and build a small wall. The main issue is: How long does the driveway have to be? What is practical?

Thank you!

We have planned a height difference of 0.95m over a 6.5m access road. I simulated this with a CAD program and every normal car just manages it without scraping. So definitely not more than that. That corresponds to just under 15%

Thanks, that corresponds to my calculation as well. Is the slope flattened at the bottom and top? Do you have to drive in particularly slowly to avoid scraping, or just normally?

Purely from the CAD model, a rounding is better but not necessary. Placing or similar was not visible in the model when moving up and down.

Great, I would also like to have such a model, but the basic conditions are comparable for us. How did you implement the wall? L stones?

What advantage do you see if you have a flat surface at the beginning? I would make it as flat as possible in your place and therefore use the entire distance.
