To all city neurotics:
There is a lot of agriculture in our family. Real—meaning people who make a living from it.
There is a rapeseed field. It has just been harvested. Since you can't always just grow rapeseed, rapeseed, rapeseed, the crop rotation now calls for wheat. Or brewing barley. What to do? The Danish method: burn the field, then plow in the ash. Not allowed in Germany because of CO2. The local method: one round of glyphosate, then plow, then reseeding.
I ask glyphosate haters for alternatives, but alternatives that actually work, where you don’t need 50 Romanians to hack weeds in the wheat to get the old rapeseed out.

How was it done without glyphosate? Rumor has it that wheat was already grown in Germany in the 1970s.

In the 1970s, they also burned here. In the 1970s, there were different total herbicides. The use of glyphosate on genetically modified seed, which has glyphosate resistance, after sowing before harvest is prohibited here.- Glyphosate decomposes in the soil after at most 21 days. So if the field is sprayed bare before winter and planted in March, there is nothing left in it. K.
